The tiniest species of Boraras is B. micros. This real dwarf attains only a
length of <st1:metricconverter ProductID="1.5 cm" w:st="on">1.5 cm</st1:metricconverter>
(aquarium kept specimen, however, can grow a little bit larger than wild
ones, which is a common phenomenon in ornamental fish species). B. micros is
very similar to B. maculatus, but can be distinguished from it by the
stouter body and the smaller shoulder spot. The latter is smaller than
the eye in B. micros. as large as or larger than the eye in B. maculatus.</span></font><o:p></o:p></p>

several varieties are known. The systematical status of these is not
researched yet. Initially B. micros has been described from northern
Thailand. The specimens collected there are usually of a whitish or pinkish
ground coloration. In B. micros collected in southern Thailand the ground
coloration usually is a deep red. Thus we call it B. cf. micros
„red“, as it possibly represents a new species.</span></font><o:p></o:p></p>

For the first time ever we were able to import one of the largest species of
Loricarai, namely L. lentiginosa. The magnificent animals are about <st1:metricconverter
ProductID="40 cm" w:st="on">40 cm</st1:metricconverter> long and thus fully
grown. Like in all species of Loricaria they are paternal mouthbrooders. The
male transports the eggs that stick together with its mouth until they hatch.</span></font><o:p></o:p></p>

In nature Loricaria lentiginosa occurs in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo.
In the natural habitats of this species the water is pretty cool in the
winter (our summer), eg <st1:metricconverter ProductID="16°C" w:st="on">16°C</st1:metricconverter>.
Temperature rises in the summer (our winter) up to <st1:metricconverter
ProductID="22°C" w:st="on">22°C</st1:metricconverter>. It is very important
to consider this when keeping the species in the aquarium.<br>

This charming little catfish species was described as early as 1908 by
Miranda Ribeiro under the name Otocinclus gibbosus. But only when a group of
reseaching aquarists (H.-G. Evers, M. Lacerda, and M. Beyer) managed to cellect
the fish alive it became clear, how distinct from all other Otocinlus-like
fishes this species really is. There do exist lots of individual colour
variations, some are pretty orange-black, other ones rather grey. Most of
them are yellowish.</span></font><o:p></o:p></p>

The species occurs in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo in the Rio Betari.
Well known other species found here are for example Scleromystax barbatus
(formerly known as Corydoras b.) or Parotocinclus paulinus. Like all species
from these regions Lampiella have to be kept rather cool (16-<st1:metricconverter
ProductID="22°C" w:st="on">22°C</st1:metricconverter>). They mainly feed on
aufwuchs, but they also take readily freshly hatched brine shrimp nauplii.
The maximum size for these charming fishes is <st1:metricconverter
ProductID="5 cm" w:st="on">5 cm</st1:metricconverter>.<br>

We were able to import for the first time a new species of emperor tetra from
Brazil. The fish were offered as „Inpaichthys sp. Black“. The
genus Inpaichthys currently has only one species, eg I. kerri from the Mato
Grosso in Brazil. The closely related genus Neamtobrycon (two species, N.
lacortei and N. palmeri, both from Colombia) differs from Inpaichthys only by
the structure of the caudal fin (with filamentous extensions in Nemtobrycon,
which are lacking in Inpaichthys) and the adipose fin, which is present in
Inpaichthys and lacking in Nematobrycon. Our new species represents an
in-between forn, with raunded caudal lobes as in Inpaichthys, but lacks the
adipose fin as in Nematobrycon. Sadly we obtained only very few specimens
which are given to reliable breeders. The fish are currently about <st1:metricconverter
ProductID="5 cm" w:st="on">5 cm</st1:metricconverter> long.</span></font><o:p></o:p></p>
