This tetra is again a species new to science, and was first imported by our company
in April 2003, from Peru. Now we were able to import it again. It has provisionally
been designated as Heterocharax sp.. Depending on the lighting, these barely 2 cm
long jewels are shimmering blue or transparent. This dwarf tetra is extremely lively
and has so far proved very amenable to aquarium life.

Males and females can easily be distinguished from each other, for the males have a
prolonged dorsal fin and colourful ventrals.

Pterophyllum scalare "Jaguar"

This extremely beautiful sport is new in our stock. It has been developed from very
few specimens that were found by chance among the offspring of Zebra-Angelfish about
one and a half year ago. We gave them to our proofed angelfish breeder and now we
have the result. The animals look very different individually what makes them very
interesting to look at.

Despite their unusual coloration the fish are typical angelfish which can be kept
like all other angelfish. It is best to keep the young in schools; pairs will find
each other best from such a school. Males become considerably larger than females.
Angelfish are open-brooding cichlids that keep parental care.

For our customers: The fish have code 694702 on our stocklist. Please note that we
exclusively supply the wholesale trade.

Lexicon: Pterophyllum: from ancient Greek, means "finleaf" or "leaffin". scalare:
from Latin "scalarum" = ladder, refers to the stripes.

Cynoglossus feldmanni

The genus Cynoglossus comprises currently 62 species. From a systematic´s point of
view the genus, which can be found both in the Atlantic and in the Indian Ocean, thus
represents a rather complicated one. Maximum size reached by these fishes is between
10 and around 30 cm cm.. That makes all members of the genus suitable as edible fish.
As most species appear near the coast in shallow waters and are quite abundant they
form an important part of the daily catch of the coastal fishery. Many species of
Cynoglossus are euryhalin, which means that they are able to change merrily between
pure fresh and pure marine water. Thus they can be kept in home aquaria in
freshwater, brackish water or marine tanks.

However, at least two species are strictly restricted to pure freshwater
environments; they are never found even in brackish water: Cynoglossus feldmanni and
C. microlepis. Both appear in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Indonesia. Here they are
usually found in rivers well above the tidal area. The specimens imported currently
come from Thailand. Most of the imports are a bit mixed, but the two species can
easily be told apart by their coloration. C. microlepis is an uniformly silver-grey
coloured fish, whereas C. feldmanni has dark brown spots and rings on a golden-brown
background.

Regarding keeping and maximum size (around 25 cm) both species are comparable to each
other. The most important fact is that tongues and flounders need a layer on fine
sand in which they can burrow themselves. Otherwise they will get skin diseases that
can be fatal. Moreover a wrong environment will stress the fish and stress will lead
to diseases, too. When the fish are kept in a correct way they are far from being
difficult or demanding. Cynoglossus feed on live and frozen food. Dry food is taken
only by very few individuals. As tongues are shy and slow feeders during the first
time in a new tank it is very important not to combine them with fast and aggressive
tankmates. The tongues are absolutely peaceful against any tankmate, may it be
conspecific or belonging to another species.

For our customers: the fish have code 412923 on our stocklist. Please note that we
exclusively supply the wholesale trade.

Lexicon: Cynoglossus: means "tongue of a dog". feldmanni: dedication name.
microlepis: means "with small scales".
