Corydoras sp. aff reynoldsi "Longnose"

Repeatedly we were able to import the longnosed Corydoras from Colombia that
resembles the shortnosed C. reynoldsi. For the latter please check
http://www.aquariumglaser.de/en/corydoras-reynoldsi--corydoras-tukano_en_1074.html.
The longnosed species represents a species undescribed by science so far.

Like all longnosed Corydoras this fish is somewhat variable regarding coloration. In
contrast to the shortnosed species, longnosed Corydoras live more or less solitary.
That is the reason why they are collected only in small numbers what makes them
comparably expensive. The largest specimens seen by us were about 6 cm long.

For our customers: the fish have code 243654 on our stocklist. Please note that we
exclusively supply the wholesale trade.

Lexicon: Corydoras: from ancient greek, means "with helmet and spear". This refers to
the strong armor and fin spines. reynoldsi: dedication name.

Hyphessobrycon loretoensis

Some species of ornamental fish live in a kind of shadowy existence. Basically
speaking they are always available, beautiful and ideal aquarium fish, but it seems
that nobody keeps them actually. One of those species is Hyphessobrycon loretoensis.
The tiny tetra (maximum length around 3.5 cm) has been imported as an ornamental fish
in 1938, found to be a species new to science and described scientifically. Since
then the species has been much-vaunted as an ideal aquarium inhabitant.

The tetra originates from the upper Amazon river, Loreto province, Peru. It is not a
schooling fish at all, but it is necessary to keep 10-20 specimens together.
Otherwise they do not feel well and will never show their typical behaviour. The
Loreto tetra swims in schools only when it feels endangered. As this situation
virtually never appears in the home aquarium, each individual will soon occupy a
small territory and defend it against conspecifics. The intensity of the black band
and the red caudal fin shows the position in the hierarchy. However, these fights
never lead to any wounds.

The Loreto tetra looks best when kept in aquaria with many plants, dark bottom (dead
leaves, peat etc.), soft and slightly acidic water and not too high temperatures
(22-24°C). It is absolutely peaceful against all tankmates. Any type of fishfood will
readily be taken.

For our customers: the fish has code 261304 on our stocklist. Please note that we
exclusively supply the wholesale trade.

Lexicon: Hyphessobrycon: ancient Greek, means "small Brycon". Brycon is another genus
of tetras. loretoensis: after the Loreto province in Peru.

Pseudorabora parva GOLD

10/802512-pseudorasbora%20parva%20gold1.jpg>

For the first time we have a golden sport (the scientific word for that phenomenon is
xanthoristic) of the Stone moroko (Pseudorasbora parva) in stock. Like all our garden
pond fish the specimens are bred ones.

The Stone moroko originates from Asia, where it occurs naturally in the northeastern
parts (former USSR, China, Japan, etc.). In the 1970s it was introduced to Central
Europe along with fish imported for stocking waters for fishing purposes. Since that
time it spreads all over the continent in a high speed. The Stone moroko is a
vigorous species and absolutely undemanding. This is the explanation for its great
success. It often becomes the only species of fish after some time in a biotope.

10/802512-pseudorasbora%20parva%20gold2.jpg>

Stone morokos are able to tolerate a broad range of temperatures and are absolutely
undemanding in respect of water chemistry. Thus they fit perfectly for very small
garden ponds, rain barrels etc., in which no other species of fish would be able to
survive. Here they feed on the mosquito larvae and that makes them quite useful.
However, during winter the fish have to be kept in a cool tank in the cellar, for
even those hard guys are not able to survive deep-freezing.

The maximum length of Stone morokos is around 7 cm. They take broodcare. The eggs are
attached on hard substratum and are guarded by the male until they hatch.

For our customers: the fish have code 802512 on our stocklist. Please note that we
exclusively supply the wholesale trade.

Lexicon: Pseudorasbora: abcient Greek, means "false Rasbora". Rasbora is another
genus of fish. parva: Latin, means "small".
